The Newcastle artist combines upbeat melodic explosions with lyrics that reflect the uncertain times we’re experiencing today. “There’s a real air of chaos in society right now” Opal shares, and he expresses the influence this has on his writing. In the aftermath of the lockdowns and being “reintroduced” into society, Opal captures the careless approach people have adopted, and the yearning for an escape from reality as the unpredictability grows and the turbulence continues.
Showcasing Opal’s melodically intoxicating music infused with a rough Northern edge, ‘I Don’t Mind’ contemplates the escapism and freedom we experience on a night out, fueled by alcohol, music and a one-night love affair.
‘I Don’t Mind’ has an old-school funk tone, but it feels as youthful and as freeing as ever. Matti’s sturdy, robust vocals radiate in the mix and interact beautifully with the horns and backing vocals, as the rest of the instrumentation provides a supportive base, resulting in a full sound that is impeccably produced.
