Completing the song trilogy for her ‘Lost Soldier’ EP, Alex Kate has recently unveiled ‘Close To You’, a poignant and expansive ballad showcasing once again the British songstress’ nuanced and meaningful songwriting. Developed together with LA-based pianist Ty.Rex and producer Daniel Newcombe, the single finds its unmistakable identity through warm and melancholic piano chords and cathartic textures, making for a song that’s introspective, yet anthemic and quite cinematic.
Lyrically, ‘Close To You’ narrates the vibrant and electrifying beginning of a relationship, before the dust settles and a painful reckoning is needed. The song is taken from Kate’s personal experience: “I felt like an intrepid explorer in the land of love, utterly vulnerable and scared to get hurt, but you can only love and be loved to the extent that you are willing to get hurt, so you have to throw yourself in fully.”
For anyone London-based, Alex’s upcoming show will take place at The Troubadour, on October 10th. Grab your tickets here!
