There’s a big story that needs to be told here. It’s a tale about evolution, reckoning, and redemption. You see, just a few years ago, Alessandro Takeshi was seen releasing highly experimental pieces, nuanced material balanced at the intersection of folk and electronica. It all then suddenly changed. Moving from Maine to Japan, on a mission to reconnect with his roots, the talented creative felt the need for a more organic approach to music creation. Getting rid of synthetisers and samplers, Alessandro discovered a side of him that hadn’t been so obvious before. His compositional skills reversed into real pianos, vintage keys, fuzzy guitars and polite drums.
Crowning it all, Takeshi’s enlightened storytelling, guiding the listeners through his newly-found artistic identity. There’s a strong Beatle-esque aura surrounding it all, perhaps also aided by the general nostalgic vibe that seems to inform his new material. ‘We Could Be Friends’ is the strongest evidence of that. The project’s latest effort, it’s an eight-track album that so wonderfully helps us understand where Alessandro is headed towards.
Lyrically, the record explores the struggles and frequent uneasiness experienced by the young generations: something that has deeply shaped our collective identities.
