There’s a lot to unpack in ‘A Word About It’, although the first thing we should all acknowledge is Alejandra O’Leary’s wholesome music outlook. You see, the American songstress presents herself as an out-of-town hero, an enlightened creative delving into tradition and flourishing on nostalgia and organic stylings. A bright light in a music landscape that’s become overcrowded and far too obvious.
O’Leary pursues her own path, and it’s clearly paying off. Built on a balance of pop, surf-rock and electric folk, ‘A Word About It’ celebrates its Beatle-esque character with pride and charisma, the perfect environment for Alejandra’s evocative and malleable vocals. Always measured and controlled, her lyrical delivery is almost perfect, giving the record a pretty anthemic energy.
Anticipating a long-length record to be released in 2024, Alejandra O’Leary seems set on a powerful journey, the same that took her from Portland to the international press. Just a matter of time before a wider audience takes note of the project.
