Alejandra O’Leary Celebrates Her Catalogue with Brand New Playlist

A quick look into Alejandra O’Leary’s extensive catalogue reveals a prolific artist, a creative fully immersed in the beauty of music-making. With her first album dating back to 2009, the Portland-based songstress has been around a fair bit: ‘Her Greatest Favorite Hits’ is a brand new playlist that collects O’Leary’s favourite tracks (eight of them) across all records.

‘Owen’ is certainly the highlight of such an effort, an eclectic and dreamy indie pop gem packed with ethereal guitars and a certain synth-pop prowess. Taken from ‘All I Know’ (2016), the song is also pretty expansive and anthemic, especially during its outro, with complicated vocal harmonies and a certain Beatles-esque magic sprinkled onto it.

Described as a “wistful, forceful declaration of dependence” by Alejandra herself, ‘Owen’ delves into growth and resilience in the face of an ever-evolving universe. The overall sonic imprint has a strong vintage quality to it, making it timeless – it might as well have been recorded in 1979, as far as we are concerned. There’s a lot more to discover in ‘Her Greatest Favorite Hits’, and likewise in O’Leary’s whole catalogue.
