aldred is a London-based electronic musician who has just released his debut EP (and surely a contender for album title of the year) ‘The Centre of the Downward Spiral’. Featuring four mind-bending and ethereal tunes, aldred creates dark, shadowy, and melancholic soundscapes and pairs them with his existential and thought-provoking lyrics. With a determination to challenge mental health stigma honesty, aldred looks to other forward thinkers like Thom Yorke, Grimes, Björk, and Kate Bush for inspiration.
‘Red Light Energy’ is the EP’s opener and tone-setter. It’s an avant-garde and leftfield track that, while floaty and airy at times, maintains an undercurrent of “darkness” throughout. ‘Every Angle’ soon follows and again, you’re introduced to sounds and textures that play with your emotions. It’s intense. And that’s exactly what aldred intended. “I enjoy making music people can feel a deep connection to,” he says.
‘Pink Glass’ and ‘End of Days’ complete ‘The Centre of the Downward Spiral’ and each truly deserves your full and undivided attention. aldred has concocted an unbelievably unique and captivating sound that I’ve fallen seriously in love with. What a debut EP! I cannot wait to hear what he does next!
