‘The Sun Still Rises’ is a record one cannot truly describe. We can certainly try, but eventually, the cathartic, poignant vibe in it cannot really be replicated here. Instead, one has to look for Aisha Badru’s evocative lyricism, the only place where the song’s heartwarming energy emerges from. Sharing her wonderful acoustic, folk pieces, the Nigerian-American talent balances her artistic output between hazy gems and earthy pieces, simply describing the reality around her and the many ways humans relate to each other.
Built on a mellow acoustic guitar and spacious, bucolic vocals, ‘The Sun Still Rises’ is packed with textures and angelic tones, the perfect match for Badru’s soothing, relatable songwriting. The track is taken from a larger album of the same name, out today via Nettwerk Music.
Speaking about the record, Badru explains: “So many people can relate to that pressure of constantly needing to validate themselves through metrics or how popular or engaging they are. And it’s just overwhelming. Sometimes retreating and being more strategic about where you’re putting your energy is so important.”
