Spy From Moscow is the solo musical project of London-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Declan Feenan. We haven’t heard from the artist since 2019, but he’s decided to grace us with a brand new tune called ‘Soldier Song’, and we couldn’t be happier! Darkly melancholic and utterly intoxicating, it’s a track that slowly builds towards a mesmerizing and operatic middle eight, before returning its listener softly back down to earth. “I wanted to write something intimate but elaborate,” said the musician. “Where quiet reflection gives way to an explosive emotional change”. I personally think he’s pulled this off with supreme confidence and aplomb!
Through bittersweet vocals and a lush soundscape, Declan tells the story of a man he met who had recently gotten out of prison. He was going out with a friend of the artists, but reoffended and was quickly returned. “Something made me write a song about him,” says Feenan.
‘Soldier Song’ is one the most emotive and moving tunes that I’ve heard all year. It’s absolutely beautiful in every way! The song will form part of Spy From Moscow’s upcoming album, and that’s a record that I’m seriously looking forward to hearing. Thank you for returning Declan, but now we’re desperate to hear more!
