Holly Blair Shares Debut EP ‘One Step Away Is Too Far’

The keen reader will gladly remember Holly Blair; we featured the L.A.-based talent not long ago praising ‘Friday 13th’: “a kaleidoscopic gem balanced on guitar-based indie shenanigans, alternative pop euphoria and a veiled but fuzzy rock imprint.” Now, Blair unveils her latest effort, the stunning debut EP ‘One Step Away Is Too Far’. In it, the listener will embark on a four-track journey into the American talent’s rich and nuanced artistry, so poignant and heartfelt yet so light and bucolic.

Opening with ‘Make It On My Own’, a recipient for nostalgia, grief and playfulness, the record set the scene over eclectic pop stylings, championing a rather organic outlook. ‘Friday 13th’ follows, taking us straight into ‘See This Through’, a more spacious and deep ballad-like number. Cinematic and evocative, the song is the perfect example of Blair’s flexibility, perfectly at home in indie-inspired environments as she is in poignant pop territories.

‘Where You Are’ brings the EP to a close in elegant fashion, exploring missed connections and the ineluctability of destiny. Speaking about the release, Holly Blair explains: “I think for so long I lived by “shoulds” and this EP really marks taking a step towards self-reflection and admitting the messiness I’ve been trying to sort through. The overall message I came away with from writing this EP was just that, it’s ok. It’s always going to be ok if I make my own peace.”
