Electrohead Shares Experimental Album ‘Magma’

There are many levels to Electrohead’s latest effort, ‘Magma’. There’s the sonic one, and we could talk about it for hours; essentially, what the Greek wizard seeks to achieve is a coherent blend of IDM, soundscapes, field recording and music concrete. From bright, kaleidoscopic arpeggiators to noisy, modular-flavoured percussive trains, to retro and glitch-filled gems, everything screams authenticity and originality, taking the listeners on an unexpected journey towards musical enlightenment.

‘Magma’… even the title recalls an ever-evolving, dynamic semi-fluid of sonic goodness that never stops, transforming itself as it goes. That’s what the album is, really, a kaleidoscopic and surprising collection of sonic fragments. Combining a plethora of sources into his work – analog, digital, found sounds – Electrohead confirms his god-like creative status.

Going back to the levels we were referring to in the beginning, there’s the lyrical, theme-related one, encompassing everything from nature to ancient Greek tragedy, to contemporary challenges and events. Electrohead’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the album. The tracks are layered and complex, yet never overwhelming, with each element perfectly balanced to create a cohesive whole.
