Shockpowder’s ‘Evergreen Solace’ is a Nostalgic Post-Metal Jewel

Amy Overd

Entering with a headbanging effervescence, the energy of Shockpowder’s new single “Evergreen Solace” cannot be contained. A full-bodied ode to post-metal, the tune feels anthemic, filling the full stereo with determined definition.

Shockpowder is a genre fusion project, bringing elements shoegazing melancholy mixed with hard-hitting metal influence. Intent on creating a sense of wistful nostalgia and sorrowful yearning, “Evergreen Solace” is hazy emotiveness set to rousing instrumentation. Based in Aylesbury, UK, Shockpowder have been making waves since 2015, and this latest single adds to a catalogue of first-rate tracks.

Vocals float in shoegaze fashion, with moments of surprising delicacy and elegance contrasting the heady distortion and chest-pounding bass. The drum beat is infectious from the get-go, with the strong, driving part potent throughout.

This track is laced with brilliant moments, with my personal favourite being the drop-out section after the intro; an intricate and stirring guitar riff that pulls you in, with the dynamic shift setting up the fullness of the track to come.
