Apewards Share Electrifying Concept Album ‘Akrasia’

While listening to ‘Akrasia’, we couldn’t help but notice the punch and charm the record seems to boast. You see, Apewards are not necessarily a ‘hard rock band’ per sé, rather, they are able to build complex and majestic walls of sounds even within a trio dynamic, a quality that showcases their musicianship and creativity. True art is born out of limitations, they say. Well, the German band is one of the strongest evidence of it. Championing a stunning album, ‘Akrasia’, the alt-rock and stoner outfit navigates an introspective yet friendly sound, also sharing some indie vibes here and there.

As you would expect, the three Marburg residents know how to behave extremely well: their compositional stylings are exceptional, with the trio constantly jumping from punk-flavoured euphoria to more haunting post-rock elements. It takes a lot of work to sound so full and original in three people, and Apewards manage to do exactly that. Their riffing work is ingenious and never tiring, and so are the drums.

Produced by Matt Korr, ‘Akrasia’ seems to mirror a certain old-school character, going for a raw, organic sonic character. This perfectly fits the lyrical matter, divided into A and B sides. The former focuses on the longing for security in a world that is falling apart, while the latter describes the feeling of life at the end of time.
