When it comes to pop music, it’s not easy to come across artists successfully championing the genre. You see, writing a catchy, relatable and memorable song is one of the hardest endeavours out there. Songwriting is a real art. Levina knows it well, boasting her wonderful pop character on latest single ‘Trip To Mars’, a glorious record that we couldn’t stop listening to.
It doesn’t try to innovate, or be quirky and witty: rather, it focuses on providing the most fantastic chorus. Hypnotising, uplifting and empowering. It stuck with us for a while. Levina will be happy to hear that, although we suspect she’s very aware of how good she is, seeing the long career he’s built over the years.
Co-written and produced by collaborator Zach Said, ‘Trip To Mars’ features modern alt-pop styling, marrying a minimal take on the genre. That’s the perfect formula for Levina’s vocals, so evocative and dynamic, really taking centre position in the track. The London-based talent seeks to offer motivation to keep going even when life doesn’t go your way. In particular, she aims to highlight the importance of taking a break.
As Levina explains: “We were chatting about how there’s so much pressure on people in this society, and how sometimes it’s nice to imagine taking a trip to Mars to escape everything and re-energise. We wanted it to have a positive feeling, so that people know it’s alright to feel overwhelmed sometimes. The guitars really added that upbeat and positive vibe throughout the song.”
