We discovered Affentanz a couple months ago, when – featuring their downtempo gem ‘Safe Place’, we proudly declared: “One must be ready to embark on a dreamy journey, navigating through a sonic landscape of lush textures and hypnotic rhythms”. Since then, the German electronic outfit has been busy at work, developing new and mesmerising pieces granting us some more escapism – after all, is that not what we all long for?
‘Hunter’ is the medium through which Affentanz share their evasive, mysterious and intense character. Shying away from ego-filled presentations, they let their music speak for itself. It’s worth it. ‘Hunter’ really hits the mark when it comes to dark wave and downtempo stylings. Introduced by haunting and gravitas-filled vocals, the record soon jumps into a slow-paced yet groovy sonic universe made up of arpeggiated synthetisers, autotune-treated vocals, and fuzzy, wide bass patches.
Influences are far and wide: from the obvious Daft Punk tones to more IDM and retro elements. Everything plays a part in sculpting the unique and authentic sound so bravely championed by Affentanz. Unsurprisingly, the single is already making waves in the German Alternative Charts.
