Blueburst Return Pt.2: Eclectic and Intense Jewel ‘Amplify Me’

This is part 2 of a larger feature, celebrating Atlanta-based outfit Blueburst and their double release, ‘Amplify Me’ and ‘Train in Vain’. While we have already covered the latter, a mellow cover version of The Clash’s rock hit, we’ll now examine the former. ‘Amplify Me’ is an original offering, contrasting quite a bit with its fellow record companion.

You see, if ‘Train in Vain’ was a rather simple song, built on relatable tones and a steady instrumental, ‘Amplify Me’ delves into decisively more complex territories, blending alt-rock prowess with a Dave Matthews-flavoured vocal part. It features complex harmonic solutions, combined with a certain cinematic energy, manifesting through dramatic vocal layers and intense breakdowns, really pushing the envelope when it comes to rock styling.

In fact, one could consider this piece a quick incursion into prog. What we know for sure, is that ‘Amplify Me’ will resonate with listeners around the world for different reasons. For its eclectism, for its catchy and anthemic chorus, or for the many moments of instrumental euphoria. There’s a lot into it, and we are confident Blueburst will reach a wide and diverse audience with it.

Lyrically, the record focuses on the events and the political turmoil in 2020. “The narrator of the song is someone feeling this anger, who by the end of the song is bordering on violent action. It was inspired by all the events happening around Summer 2020, in which there was rage aplenty on all sides. The sound is a bigger heavier guitar than most of our stuff, reflecting that angst.”
