Mara Liddle Explores Friendships and Boundaries in ‘Oversharing’

The keen reader might remember Mara Liddle, talented newcomer with a knack for bright and dreamy hyperpop. We recently featured ‘Facebook Official’, a catchy gem we proudly declared as “stacking modern and minimal synth pop against hyper-pop-flavoured vocals, fully crowning the track with their acute tone and celestial qualities.” Now, Liddle returns with a brand new offering, ‘Oversharing’. The record continues the project’s journey into mainstream territories, as opposed to its more experimental origins.

Still, this feels like a new beginning for Liddle, taking her to a place where she’s able to be bolder, at least vocal-wise, leaving ethereal textures behind in favour of more upfront and uplifting material. ‘Oversharing’ really delves into a ‘PC Music’ type beat, merging bubbly and acute synthetisers with Mara’s mangled voice, treated in a bath of intentional autotune giving her a dreamy, bucolic quality.

Lyrically, the record explores Liddle’s efforts in connecting with people in early adulthood, always fearing boundaries and social dynamics. As she explains: “Oversharing’ chronicles my encounters with roommates in university accommodation, and attempting to forge new friendships in early adulthood.”

Look out for Liddle’s debut upcoming EP, expected later this year.
