At the beginning of this year, we fell pretty hard for Carter Ray’s soothing and joyful tune ‘Forever, Plus One’. Between then and now, the Los Angeles-based actor and musician has released ‘Dear Victoria’, another stupendous single, and ‘Empty Promises’, his most recent. Released just a few days ago, it’s a tune that proudly exhibits what is now Carter Ray’s signature sound. Mild and laidback EDM tones are intertwined with delicate and haunting piano melodies, as Ray’s emotive and somewhat desolate vocals point to his vulnerability and honesty.
Lyrically, ‘Empty Promises’ painstakingly details the destructive cycle of being in a toxic relationship. Carter turns himself into the villain, as he grapples with his self-worth, trust, and withdrawal from society. “I wanted to make this song to show how important it is to take accountability for our own destruction and hurtful actions,” he says. “It’s so crucial to take time for yourself after exiting a toxic relationship”.
Cater Ray is the real deal folks! Along with his incredible music, he’s an inspiring figure in the LGBTQ+ community, and even won the ‘Best Drama’ award at the QueerX LA Film Festival for his debut short film ‘The Change Up’. There’s not much this artist can’t do in all honesty, and I cannot wait to see what he comes up with next!
