Farees Explores the Stigma Around Mental Health in ‘She Talks with Jesus’

When approaching Farees’ musical outlook, it is hard to pinpoint a definite genre. Rather, one can discover his artistry, so kaleidoscopic and eclectic, yet so unique and transparent. A multi-talented figure, Farees deals not only in music, but also in poetry and activism. It all drips feed into his sonic outlook, though. Delving into it, the listener will be faced with a culturally rich offerings, supercharged by Farees heritage. Of Tuareg descent (from his mum’s side) and German-Italian (from his dad’s side), Farees manages to convey all these diverse influences into a rather unique and authentic package, standing out from the crowd thanks to his unmatched energy, groove and charisma.

‘She Talks with Jesus’ is the project’s latest effort, and first single of the year. In it, the listeners will meet Farees’ mellower side. Indeed: built over soft pop and folk idioms, the record feels as soothing and gentle as it could, really allowing us to appreciate Farees’ dynamic, light and controlled vocals.

Lyrically, the song seeks to recall its author’s mother, an energy healer who struggled with mental health, also because of the hostile environment in her village. Celebrating his mother’s challenges and adversities, Farees sensitises the listener on mental health, a topic that – to this day – faces various stigmas around the world.
