Kamī Shares Celebrative and Solemn Experimental Piece ‘Kagi’

Entering Kamī’s artistic world is not for everyone: the listening experience is solemn, intense and drenched in transformative and healing power. ‘Kagi’ is the project’s latest effort, an experimental jewel that really showcases the nuanced artistry that’s so proudly championed by the South London-based young newcomer. Introduced by monastery/temple-flavoured vocal harmonies, the piece thrives on planned minimalism, layering evocative chants with field recordings and sparse leftfield electronica. In other words, a truly immersive soundscape, really pushing the listener into a meditation-like state, acting as a facilitator towards reaching our inner consciousness.

A stunning effort. The outro sees the track really come into its own, progressively building towards an artistic zenith that seems virtually unreachable – while gradually descending upon us. We appreciate the sensible sound design too: from noisy sweeps to glitch-like short bursts, ‘Kagi’ enters the Olympus of experimentation hitting all the right marks.

Of Japanese and British heritage, Kamī seems projected toward a niche yet glorious career, pairing her authentic sonic offering with a deep lyrical and conceptual ethos, here manifested into the transcendental state between opposing realities, explored as part of the ‘kami’ – a divine spirit and source of energy.
