While we discovered Amen Sioux only recently – thanks to the project’s previous single ‘Useless’ – the talented newcomer instantly became one of our favourite musical endeavours, thanks to a unique and immersive sonic outlook that instantly draws the listener in. In fact, we gloriously declared: “The listening experience is phenomenal, echoing a dazzling and euphoric blend of indie, psych and lo-fi elements, all organised into a gooey, dynamic offering, the perfect fit for our complex and confusing times”.
Now, Sioux moves towards his forthcoming EP with another incredible offering, the kaleidoscopic and groovy gem ‘Dramatic’. In it, we get a slightly more retro musical picture, championed by wavey and clean guitars and breakbeat-style drum patterns, all drenched in the same fuzzy and majestic musical sauce that seems to be characterising the project greatly.
Lyrically, the record functions as an anthem for resilience and self-growth. As Amen Sioux explains: “Dramatic’ is about fighting with self-forgiveness and compassion. When I wrote ‘Dramatic’ I was at a particularly low point. I needed to remind myself to not give up, that I still believed in myself and that I had to stop blaming and punishing myself for a failed relationship.”
