‘Closer’ is the brand new (as in released today) single courtesy of London-based singer/songwriter and producer Sarah Carton in collaboration with fellow producer Bi&nka. Known for her gripping spoken word and delicate, angelic vocals, Sarah’s partnership with house, hip-hop, and experimental producer Bi&nka is a true match made in heaven. While it’s a tough tune to pin down genre-wise, ‘Closer’ sees Carton’s vocals effortlessly float over a mellow and laidback yet somewhat dark and alternative beat. The product of late-night demos and voice notes, it’s a track that simply has to be heard to be fully understood.
Sarah cites musicians like Kate Nash, Lykke Li, Banks, and Mike Skinner as being some of her biggest inspirations. What makes her a special and unique artist, in my view, is her ability to not lean too heavily on those influences. Always pushing herself to experiment sonically and conceptually, she owns her music.
Last year, Sarah released her self-produced debut EP entitled ‘Raw’. Featuring six original songs, the album received some seriously high praise from many in the music industry. ‘Closer’ is her first release since, and I cannot wait to hear more from her!
