KIMMERLY Returns with ‘The April Fool – 2021 Demo’

Emerging from Fort Myers, US, KIMMERLY is one of those discoveries that take time to fully digest. Shying away from commercial tropes and pop clichès, the young songstress focuses on material that’s incredibly personal and fragile. Often balanced between acoustic tone, ethereal vocal harmonies and poignant violin lines, KIMMERLY’s sonic signature is the perfect framework for her introspective and nuanced lyricism, better expressed by a strong and evocative vocal prowess. The keen listener might be familiar with the project already, seeing the glorious and productive 2022 experienced by the talented newcomer.

It all culminated with the release of a long and experimental album, ‘Of Muses and Music’, offering a glimpse of KIMMERLY’s convoluted artistry – often inspired by visual art – and potentially bringing an era to a close. Now, she looks to kickstart the next chapter in her creative journey, doing so with ‘The April Fool – 2021 Demo’, an informal yet hard-hitting offering that once again reiterates the peculiar character of the Fort Myers-based songwriter.

Being a demo, you’ll have to accept some of the shortcomings in its sonic aspect. It’s all egregiously balanced by KIMMERLY’s vocals and songwriting though, helping the track achieve a much rawer, pure, and unfiltered feel, as if we were witnessing her songwriting. Describing the process behind the track, KIMMERLY explains: “I have been patiently waiting for three years for the perfect conditions to release ‘The April Fool’. The song is inspired by the concept of April Fools’ Day, and is reminiscent of the well-known Frank Sinatra song ‘That’s Life.
