Since we called ourselves Mesmerized, it is only natural for us to be drawn to ethereal, hypnotizing and… well, mesmerising musical material. Coming across New Jersey’s indie newcomer Brothers Arm, we knew we had to feature them. Championing an exquisite lo-fi, vaporwave-flavoured aesthetic, the American talent manages to create a rather euphoric and authentic artistic universe, guiding the listener into a dazzling musical journey. Formerly the keyboardist of a handful of small indie bands, Brothers Arm has grown to be a creative entity of their own – and we are glad they did so.
‘Lilithing’ is the strongest evidence of that: the project’s latest effort, the record is also a successful attempt at incorporating pop lyricism into a seemingly leftfield sonic picture. It works: ‘Lilithing’ ends up being a fresh and stunning offering, able to connect with niche listeners but also to a wider audience.
Explaining the writing process behind the track, Brothers Arm explains: “Lilithing was one of my attempts to see how naturally expressive I could be as a musician who creates through software and midi instruments,” Brothers Arm says. “The song features mostly first takes and more fluid and analog sounding instruments to try to capture the intangibles of momentary emotion.”
