Stutterboy Create Dark and Brooding Atmosphere on ‘False Dam’

Jeremy Bregman

‘False Dam’ is the dark and mysterious new single from the Brooklyn-based act Stutterboy. Merging minor chord progressions with eerie and powerful synth tones, Stutterboy go on to create a post-punk, psychedelic-rock banger! Reverbed, hazy, and delayed vocals “punctuate the grimace underlying the tune,” says the band, as they take the listener on an alternative, arty, and intentionally uneasy ride. I’m not going to lie…you may need a few listens to ‘False Dam’ before fully appreciating its genius, but once you’re there there’s simply no turning back.

Stutterboy released their debut album ‘stutterboy’ back in 2021. ‘False Dam’ is the band’s third single this year after ‘When You Call Me’ and ‘Crossing Over’ respectively, and it will feature on their upcoming, yet-to-be-named, album. Describing the track as “one of the more fierce sounding on the new album”, Stutterboy has definitely piqued my interest to hear more from them!

I can’t get enough of the brooding almost menacing atmosphere felt throughout ‘False Dam’. It’s such a fresh, interesting, innovative, and exciting sound. The anticipation for Stutterboy’s new album is seriously real, and the band have set the bar high with this song!
