The last time I heard from Baton Rouge-based singer/songwriter Peyton McMahon, he’d just released his cracking single ‘Higher’, but that was back in 2020. Where on earth has the time gone? Thankfully, the musician has decided to grace us with his presence again, and I for one could not be happier! ‘No Control’ is McMahon’s brand new tune, and it’s a deeply personal and intimate song for the artist. Narrating his own experiences with mental health, McMahon uses the track to vent about situations that he cannot control. “I can sometimes overthink and worry to the extreme,” he says. “It’s frustrating and makes things harder than they need to be”.
Detailing a heavy subject over an upbeat, melodic, and infectious soundscape is certainly not a new concept, but there’s something about the way that Peyton does it that is. His commanding, soulful, and heartfelt vocals serve as the ideal vehicle for the punchy and poppy tune, and you can’t help but be sucked into his world.
Peyton McMahon is as genuine and as honest a musician as you could ever hope to come across. I’m certain that he’s destined for big things, and look forward to hearing what he unveils next!
