That’s something we think is highly precious and a definite blessing in an industry that seems to have long lost its way. Aided by seminal acts such as Snarky Puppy, among others, an infectious blend of jazz, fusion and modern funk has been taking our young creatives by storm, taking them on a journey into virtuoso playing but also into coherent and sapient compositional wisdom.
CROOKS INC. emerge from the very same scene, a group of talents exploring a nuanced and luscious RnB/Jazz aesthetic, accompanied by stunning and sleazy vocals that greatly enrich the listening experience. ‘NGL’ is the band’s debut effort, and it’s absolutely glorious: eclectic drums, clean guitars and complex keys parts, everything points towards sublime musicianship, making the record a welcome offering for every keen listener. What’s more, ‘NGL’ is incredibly groovy.
Lyrically, CROOKS INC. don’t hide in old clichés, really supercharging the song’s theme. As we are told, ‘NGL’ is a playful take on the small annoyances that can emerge in a relationship, highlighting how it’s all functional to long-term love.
