There seems to be an incredibly productive music scene in Adelaide. After all, Australia has decisively been delivering some of the most outstanding musical wonders of the last 30 years. River Lane is the latest expression of that very same scene, here mirrored into the work of a clearly talented and recognized creative. Championing an eclectic and technology-driven outlook over her record, the Adelaide-based artist has managed to create quite the name for herself, being supported by the likes of Triple J and SCALA.
Now, River Lane teams up with fellow singer Leena Regan, delivering a wonderful and luscious gem, ‘Human Design’. Blending ethereal textures with more mainstream pop formulas, the track is a very peculiar offering, showcasing Lane and Regan’s introspective and evocative vocals, often drenched in bucolic harmonies. Although the song keeps a minimal approach to its arrangements, the chorus sees quite a glorious and anthemic explosion in character, pushing the record into cinematic territories.
Lyrically, Lane and Regan seek to offer solace and comfort to listeners, urging them to accept their flaws and imperfections. ‘Forgiving myself’, as they so charmingly sing. Our past mistakes should not define us, and there’s no point obsessing over them.
