There’s something really special in PeZhEd’s latest effort, an invisible, timeless force that draws us into the project, perhaps aided by the sense of nostalgia channelled by the track. ‘Locked on Ya’ is an unapologetic jump into classic house and early ‘2000 commercial vibes. Vocals are proudly provided by MiissAyyy, and they are the element that most recalls the vintage sentiment so strongly championed by the record. Quite an impressive offering from the Florida-based Dj and producer, just in time for spring shenanigans.
Of course, we wouldn’t expect anything less from PeZhEd. The American talent has constantly showcased an ear for dance bangers. Sonic references might change, but the catchiness and relatability of his records don’t, and that’s a gift not everyone can boast of. Sharing insights into the writing process for ‘Locked on Ya’, he explains: “My roommate helped close out the chorus by repeating the tagline and that gave us resolution with the hook. That was cool, it’s nice when you get a little input from those around you sometimes and how the collective creative spirit works. It’s always an adventure how to get from concept to finished product. It’s the most satisfying challenge.”
Well, if there’s one thing we know how to recognize is a certified banger. And ‘Locked on Ya’ certainly fits all the boxes: blending modern EDM elements with vintage tones and nostalgic melodies, the record is the kind of track people have trouble stopping listening to; it just draws you in, an irresistible sonic gooey that’s intense and uplifting, drenched in clubbing imagery.
A worthy discovery, don’t sleep on it.
