Ann Marie Nacchio is an insanely gifted singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is based in Staten Island, New York City. Towards the end of last year, she released a seven-track EP called ‘It’s been a day, a week, a month, a year’, and I have since fallen rather hard for her eclectic sound. A tune called ‘Kismet’ gets the EP underway with a haunting piano and Ann’s comforting and silvery vocals. It then effortlessly builds up until reaching a fiery, psychedelic-rock crescendo. It’s a little unexpected I have to admit, but that’s the beauty of Ann’s work – you’re often surprised and always impressed.
‘Maybe’ is the EPs second track, and shows Ann’s poppier side. With each song on the album reflecting a different outlook or stage of an intense love affair, ‘Maybe’ delves into the unpredictability of a new relationship and sees Ann musing about which way it’ll go. It also provides another stellar vocal performance from the artist.
The EP is actually the first of two from Ann that form her concept project known as ‘The Outward Spiral’. ‘And Now It’s Time For A Breakdown’, the second EP, was released at the beginning of this month, and I can only urge you to give both of these wonderful albums a listen!
