‘Behind the Scenes’ is the beautiful new single from the Italian-born, now London-based singer/songwriter Dalma. Serving as the follow-up to her debut release ‘Thorns’ in 2021, ‘Behind the Scenes’ takes inspiration from the Rococo, or Late Baroque, theatrical aesthetic. Dalma stamps her own contemporary twist on the tune, infusing the track with classical elements like the harpsichord and strings with the modernity of guitar and drums. It’s a wonderfully inventive, enigmatic, and authentic song that stays with you long after your first listen.
“I have also learned in my life there is that smiley face that is often a mask,” sings Dalma. “Life is a stage where we act, we need to do our best to play our part”. Even in contemporary times, ‘Behind the Scenes’ sheds light on an enduring issue. In today’s age of social media, the pressure to present only the most polished versions of oneself is evident. It can often be in stark contrast to their actual reality. “In the end, the curtains closed, that’s all you’ve seen, that’s all I want you to believe”.
I’ve fallen pretty hard for ‘Behind the Scenes’. Its authenticity and genuineness are there for all to hear. Thank you, Dalma!
