Mara Liddle Explores Internet’s Hypocrisies in ‘facebook official’

Pursuing a unique and personal sound, British young riser Mara Liddle is your next big discovery. Debuting last year with ‘Out Of Sight Out Of Mind’, the talented songstress showcased a knack for ethereal, experimental electronica, the kind of nuanced and unexpected material you would expect at the crossroads between art-pop and leftfield electronica. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Charli XCX, Pinkpantheress, and Shygirl, Mara has created a unique body of work that speaks to the realities of life for a young woman in today’s world – a world that is profoundly influenced by the internet.

‘facebook official’ focuses on that very same theme, stacking modern and minimal synth pop against hyper-pop-flavoured vocals, fully crowning the track with their acute tone and celestial qualities. The record also marks a definite shift towards more mainstream territories, when compared to her catalogue. Although, one is always able to find uniqueness and magic in Liddle’s efforts: they are just delivered in a more friendly and relatable format.

Produced with frequent collaborator JB Thomas, ‘facebook official’ signals the personal and musical growth of a clearly gifted creative, with the track being one of her best efforts. Through her captivating and deep lyricism, Liddle takes us on a journey into her own experiences of navigating the complexities of adulthood. Notably, she’s been selected for BBC Introducing’s Big in 2023.
