Maëla Raoult’s Latest Album ‘Hypokrat’ is Colourful and Captivating

Jeremy Bregman

Right…let’s get a little experimental and different again. ‘Hypokrat’ is the brand new album from Brittany native and chamber music enthusiast Maëla Raoult. Featuring five original and personal compositions as well as the arrangement of two classic standards, ‘Who Walks in When I Walk Out’ and ‘Mackie Messer’ respectively, ‘Hypokrat’ is a colourful palette of sounds and textures. The album’s title track kicks things off and you’re immediately intrigued by and drawn into the tune. I’d be lying if I said it was for everyone but if you connect with it, it keeps you captivated for its full duration.

‘Cannibal’ is another song that is deeply absorbing and engrossing. African percussions are mixed with classical influences and jazz harmonies to create a sound that’s unlike anything I’ve heard before. It’s so unique and original and serves as the perfect example of Raoult’s diverse musical influences and her willingness to experiment with different genres.

‘Hypokrat’ really is an album that defies categorisation. The artist’s vision and musical sensibilities are at the forefront, and it’s clear that she’s not interested in following any set musical conventions. That’s what we love! Do yourself a favour and stick on ‘Hypokrat’ now!
