Following up on a glorious 2022, London songstress Alice Jayne returns with her latest effort, a reflective slice of electronic pop with a strong dreamy character. ‘The High Priestess’ is all of that and more, further pushing Jayne’s artistry in unexpected directions. Championing a mainstream electronic pop outlook, the project has been racking up streams as if they were candy, allowing Jayne to reach a staggering 5k monthly listeners, a sign that something is clearly working in her favour.
Perhaps it’s the evocative and romantic songwriting, often interpolating classic pop tropes with modern melodies. Or – at least in the case of ‘The High Priestess’ – the bucolic and choral sound that she builds with her vocal harmonies, evidence of how good her voice is. Lyrically, Alice Jayne aims to inspire listeners to truly believe that freedom is inherent and that light exists even in the darkest moments. She is a rising star to watch in 2023.
