In a world of over-polished and artificial artistic output, it is sometimes beneficial to return to more approachable and organic material. Of course, there’s no shortage of modern heroes championing genres that fall out of the mainstream trends. One of those figures is Water Rise, a solo project with a group-oriented ethos from Paris, France. The project is a charmingly eclectic blues-rock sound, heavily borrowing from American tradition and the Country tradition. The result is a wonderful listening experience, for fans of the genre.
‘Escape’ is Water Rise’ latest effort, a collaboration with fellow Australian creative MIK’s Reaction. In it, the record embarks on an energetic journey through blues guitars, echoing the sort of tones you’d hear in rural Pennsylvania. Vocals are slightly more modern, possessing an airy and luscious allure which contrasts nicely with the down-to-earth character of the instrumental.
Lyrically, we are in classic road-trip territories, with Water Rise asking us to join them on a road-trip along imagination avenue. Why a road-trip? Because Water Rise cannot be contained, as he explains: “Ideas pour out of me like an unstoppable force, one that I cannot contain. This creative energy is something that I strive to capture and express through my music.”
