AUXR Echoes the Classic Sound of Downtempo in ‘Plastic Love’

When approaching AUXR, one can’t help but feel as if the project seeks to celebrate dance music, championing some of its more notable influences and translating them into the modern world. Looking deeper, everything becomes clearer. Also known as a well-established italo-disco and nu-disco producer and DJ (under the moniker Auxiliary tha Masterfader), AUXR is an alter-ego focusing on downtempo material, the kind of soothing and relaxing tracks that used to be released by labels such Mo’ Wax and Wall of Sound.

‘Plastic Love’ is the Dutch producer’s latest release. We would describe it as a joyful and passionate throwback, pursuing authenticity in the sound design choices and the singer’s vocal qualities. Over a downtempo, laidback and chilled electronic beat, we find soulful vocals courtesy of Icelandic singer Stina Ágústsdóttir, the kind of RnB tone we’d find in classic house tunes, for instance. Crowning it all, a light tape distortion gives the record a strong and charming retro flair.

AUXR rediscovered his love for downtempo sounds back in 2021, pushing him towards the release of ‘Suite of Flow’ EP the following summer. Now, the project seems to be flourishing, and we are confident we’ll soon be hearing more releases from him – just need to find the right collaborators for the job.
