From a young age, Sean Kennedy found in music the sweetest of companionship, slowly learning the trade and evolving into a fully-fledged artistic entity. Now, the New York-based musician returns with his latest gem, ‘Memory’, a country-pop number with a knack for emotional lyricism and catchy melodies. A collaboration with Italian producer Francesco Massidda, the single represents the first step towards an album release, expected later this year.

Intrigued by the project, we caught up with the American talent to find out more about his artistry and future goals… Interview below!
Hey Sean, how is it going? some of our readers might not be familiar with your project, how would you describe yourself, in a few words?
Hi! I think I would describe myself as passionate and driven.
Your current work is the result of a long journey; What first drew you to making music?
I started writing songs when I was 9 years old. I’ve always loved music and something about making my own was so enticing, even at a young age. After that, I picked up guitar and piano and I began to teach myself how to record songs.
If you had the opportunity to pick any artists in the world for a collaboration, who would be your first choice? (and second choice, perhaps?)
I think first and foremost I’d choose Jack Antonoff. He’s such a genius and working with him would be an absolute honour. Another dream collaboration of mine would be Lana Del Rey. There’s no one quite like her and she’s an astounding lyricist.
You have just released a wonderfully honest single, ‘Memory’. Exploring the nostalgic and poignant aftermath of a relationship, makes us wonder whether it was informed by personal experience. What does the song mean to you?
‘Memory’ is a very special song to me. I wrote it when I began college and was thinking a lot about how my life was going to change. I wanted to make sure I held onto the great times in my past.
Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?
I find my best work comes to me at random times, for example, this song came to me in the middle of class. It’s pretty hard for me to sit down and decide I’m going to write a song in that moment, so it’s not always easy to write with another person. Writing on my own just comes more naturally, for me.
A substantial amount of time has passed since your last release in August 2021. Has your music evolved since then?
After the release of my last album, I decided I wanted to take some time off and evolve my sound as an artist. My last album was primarily and synth and indie-pop record, and my current music has shifted towards some pop-rock.
Artistically speaking, what challenges have the last two years presented you with?
I’ve found that my life has changed so drastically in the past two years, so it was quite hard to write when so much was going on. Between the sadness of graduating high school, the excitement for college and experiencing love and so much more, it was difficult to focus my writing to touch on all of my emotions.
What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?
I’m extremely excited that my fourth album will be released later this year! More information on that will be coming shortly!
