If you have been following us for a while, you certainly know about our obsession for everything dreamy: from ethereal bedroom pop to full-on shoegaze, to ecstatic indie tones. That’s exactly what we are here for! Naturally, we caught up with one of the best releases of the year -at least so far. Emerging from the solitary Isle Of Man, we meet HIGHWAYVES, a brand new shoegaze-inspired outfit with a knack for poignant indie matter and anthemic vocals.
Their debut was unveiled only recently, taking the shape of a wonderful single: ‘FRAME IT’ is as good as they come, and it’s rather interesting in its formula. Introduced by rarefied guitar tones, the track slowly makes its way to a more compact and punchy indie character, especially in the catchy choruses section. Interestingly, at times (especially towards the ending), HIGHWAYVES’ vocals remind us of an early, young Chris Martin – or are we just dreaming it?
Well, even if we are dreaming it, that’s still a fantastic outcome for HIGHWAYVES: their music is capable to take you on a journey, often nostalgic, often inspiring. They are providing an exceptional record, showcasing themselves as one of the hottest bands of 2023. The rest is up to you, will you support them?
Describing the lyrical meaning behind the track, the group explains: “We were in love. Our desires blinded us to the fact that we were poison for each other. We’d fight, cry, make up and end up spending the night together. That resolution made us feel like we were meant for each other despite everything else screaming that we weren’t, but we were kids “in love”.
