There are a few different ways to experience your role as an “artist”. You can exercise in what’s called popular music, a simple form of entertainment and escapism. Or, you could focus on the way sonic matter is perceived in society, trying to innovate formulas and sounds to achieve a higher iteration of what we call ‘art’. Beatdenker is one of those figures. The last in a long line of electronic music pioneers, his approach to music-making is driven by research and experimentation – you’ll often find a very specific thoughts-theory behind his work.
‘Ethic Endless Fun’ is Beatdenker’s latest work, a cutting-edge 10-track album spanning all realms of electronica, ultimately reworking many of its author’s early millennium references into new and innovative sonic concoctions. Proficient in guitar synthesizer and FX, finger drumming on MPC and instant arranging and composing on Loop-Station, the Berlin resident is widely known as a live artist, offering a style of music that is as diverse as it is creative.
The ethos behind Beatdenker’s music is to make complex rhythms sound as accessible and bouncy as possible, while also incorporating futuristic sound design and instant composition. By combining influences from Carnatic music, European experimental music of the 20th century, and Black American music, Beatdenker is able to create a truly unique and captivating sound that is sure to captivate and mesmerize audiences.
Describing his work, the German researcher explains: “Major tasks of our time are probably the understanding of complex interrelations and contexts, to tolerate ambiguities – at the same time to resolve paradoxes – and to describe problems as concretely as possible. This album is by no means an attack on contingency, nevertheless a laudation to the concrete and a rebuff to the vague.”
