Emerging from Denver, US, Business Cashmere are one of those young bands with immense potential. Their approach to music is pretty kaleidoscopic. Staying away from cliché and over-used formulas, they manage to blend their instruments together in a fresh yet interesting way, for instance with convoluted and complex drum parts, with strong and evocative lead vocals, or with the occasional electronic element.
It is exactly the willingness to accept electronic influences that so much characterized their previous single, ‘Like a Ghost’. Channelling indietronica and poignant vibes, the track was a rare glimpse into what Business Cashmere is capable of, gracefully blending electric guitars and drum machine-style beats.
Now, the Denver residents return with what’s their first record of the year, ‘Dance Alone’. In it, they shuffle the cards once again, this time indulging in a more indie perspective, delivering a banger that flows fast and slick. Drums carry a strong pulse, potentially danceable, while guitars exercise in single-note riffs. It is only in the chorus that Business Cashmere dive into old territories, bringing back some poignancy and distortion.
Overall, a worthy release from a clearly talented band. Recommended!
