Tom Lee-Richards Presents His Unique Folk Style in New Record ‘Spinning for Shape’

An alt-folk musician from New Zealand, Tom Lee-Richards recently released ‘Spinning for Shape’, a stunning 4-track EP balanced over soothing folk tones and honest storytelling. Created with local Brazilian musicians and producer Leonardo Marques, the record is an exploration of identity and the interaction of self within a community. The release is filled with imagery reflective of the human condition, and the songs explore themes of self-sabotage, life choices, and the tension between being self-sufficient and revealing one’s vulnerabilities.

There’s a sense of magic in the EP, a pressing sense of cultures infusing each other. Spending his time between New Zealand and Brazil, it is no wonder Lee-Richards sounds so unique, so authentic. In a world of standardised musical offerings, he’s the one who got away: providing uncompromised, unfiltered musical research, the project is a breath of fresh air.
