There’s a certain parallel to be drawn between Gateshead producer and Dj Dadalion and electronic artist Fred Again: they both seem to have channelled the sense of nostalgia, rebellion and uneasiness brought on by pandemic lockdowns into their music, using spoken words and ethereal sonic matter in the process. For Dadalion, it all comes to fruition through his latest record ‘Lockdown EP’, a convoluted journey into the British talent’s artistic identity.
The EP is a truly immersive experience, with a mix of dreamy melodies and hypnotic rhythms. Each track is a unique journey, combining elements of jungle and electronica to create a soundscape that is both upbeat and mysterious. With influences ranging from the classic Boards of Canada sound to the experimental tones of Tycho and Mogwai, Dadalion has created an EP that is sure to please both the dedicated fan and the casual listener. ‘Hexagon Love’ takes the role of lead single, a wonderfully melodious and emotional gem, perhaps exactly what we needed after a difficult couple of years.
‘Lockdown EP’ is a truly impressive work of art, a blend of classic and modern sounds that will surely satisfy even the most discriminating of music fans. If you’re looking for something fresh and innovative, this EP is definitely worth a listen.
