Nashville Hype Machine The Thing With Feathers Shares New Record ‘These Drugs’

The hype is building thick and fast for The Thing With Feathers. From topping editorial playlists on leading streaming services to feature at this year’s South By Southwest festival, the Nashville residents seem projected for brighter and bigger things. Their recent US tour is major evidence of that. Another major piece of evidence is their music. A busy couple of years brought them to release a plethora of singles and an EP, all sharing their signature power-indie rock style. Lots of character, attitude and instrumental prowess; but above all, the ability to still write relatable, friendly topline, effortlessly blending gritty guitars and melodious topline.

Their latest effort ‘These Drugs’ continues in the same direction, hot on the heels of its predecessors ‘Waste My Revenge’ and ‘Don’t Break My Heart’, marking the start of a brand new release cycle. Hopefully. We’ll get an EP next year, or even an album?

Introduced by a short loop of industrial electronica, ‘These Drugs’ quickly comes back to the motherland, channelling a mellow, poppy verse, highlighting the quality of The Thing With Feather’s lead vocals. As always, their choruses are total arena anthems: heartwarming, poignant sections that do wonders for the listeners. Audiences will sing it back aloud. Overall, we get a certain The 1975 flavouring in the record, especially when it comes to the pop element in it.
