Often, the simplest songs are the most meaningful. Multidisciplinary artist Sedric Perry knows it well, having just released his latest single, ‘CTB’. The track is an ode to the sense of home and comfort that Sedric found upon returning to New York City after spending time in Berlin and Senegal. Wrapping the listener into a freedom-driven anthem, Perry seeks to share a message of acceptance and fragility. The record is exactly that: a tale of human experience, a hymn to love, connections and the magic of ordinary life.
Opening with a soulful piano melody, Sedric’s powerful vocals soon take centre stage. ‘CTB’ was written about everyone the artist has ever loved, and he hopes that his listeners will find a sense of warmth and comfort in the lyrics.
Sedric says, “I wanted something that felt like home. After being in Berlin and Senegal and feeling like my life was spinning out of control at some points, all of a sudden I was back in New York. And this song was speaking to me. I was grateful and calm again. This song just felt like a big hug from everyone I ever loved, whether they’re here or not. I wanted to show this side of myself to people who’ve been listening for a while. To me this song feels like home.”
In addition to expressing love and vulnerability, Sedric also hopes the song will serve as a reminder to slow down and appreciate the present moment. “Everything moves so fast now and our attention spans are so short – we think we should always be somewhere other than where we are,” he says. “Could this Be’ is your reminder to slow down and enjoy what’s in front of you right now.”
With its powerful vocals and message of love and acceptance, ‘CTB’ is the empowering anthem you were looking for. Keep an eye out for the artist’s upcoming EP, set to be released in early 2023.
