katie drives is a Berlin-based alternative rock musician who is beginning to make a serious name for herself in the industry! ‘Next To You’ is her brand new release, and serves as the follow-up to ‘Ghosts’, katie’s highly successful single. Described as the artist’s “poppiest song so far”, ‘Next To You’ sees katie and producer Ole Kuhlmann mix up elements of rock and pop with electronic dance, all wrapped in an energetic and almost-punky soundscape. It works an absolute treat I have to say! It’s upbeat, gritty, anthemic, and just perfect in so many ways.
While the title may at first sound like a love song, the tune actually deals with themes of appreciation, self-doubt, envy, and guilt when comparing oneself to others. We spend our lives looking at people who seem flawless, prettier, smarter, more talented, and so on. We know this isn’t “real life”, but it has an undeniable effect on us all.
katie grew up as a self-described “shy outsider in the countryside of North Germany”, but she has now started a brand new and exciting chapter in her life with a fresh punk attitude, and support from the association Initiative Musik. We’re fully on board!
