Lisa Murray Shares Empowering Anthem ‘Woman in a World’

Art is one of the most powerful acts of self-expression. It serves as an outlet for frustrations and change, often reflecting the social landscape around us. After all, that’s what artists do – borrowing from the contemporary to inspire social progress. Take for instance Lisa Murray. The Irish songstress has long championed feminist activism, making it an integral part of her musical output. Murray had a productive year, with two acclaimed singles, ‘i unfollowed you’ and ‘if i ever see you again’, laying the groundwork for a bright career.

While those records focused on mainstream pop and electronic elements, Lisa’s latest effort takes the shape of a more organic and acoustic ballad – ‘Woman in a World’ – highlighting her evocative vocals and crucial lyricism. Inspired by a recent spate of violence against women in the UK and Ireland, and by the overturning of Roe vs. Wade in the USA, Murray opens her heart out and writes a feminist anthem, a scream of female empowerment against a society that has yet to fully reckon with its fallacies and shortcomings.

We strongly appreciate that. In a world of flimsy toplines and performative creativity, Lisa Murray seeks to embody what she stands for, making it the subject of her artistic expression. Describing the writing process behind the track, the Dublin resident explains: “At a time when biases, sexism & brutal violence against women still happens across the globe, this song is an uncomfortable expression of the things people don’t talk openly about. My aspiration for the song is to raise awareness about the fears and frustrations of the women of this world for those who don’t understand them.”
