Picturesque Character R. F. Coleman Returns with Irresistible Bop ‘Crazy For You’

Boasting an extraordinary, almost cinematic existence, newcomer R. F. Coleman struck the music scene like summer lightning, instantly mesmerising listeners all around the world into following his bubbly, exciting aesthetic. Debuting earlier this year with single ‘I Couldn’t Trust’, Coleman delivered a fantastic slice of alt-electronica, framing early millennia vibes with modern sleaziness. An irresistible package.

With such a strong debut, one could wonder what’s the secret behind R. F. Coleman’s success. Well, there’s not just one, but two. The first is producer Joshua Moriarty (of Miami Horror and Telenova), lending his expert production and writing skills. The second is R. F. Coleman’s incredible life background. An acclaimed journalist, he’s been living through some crazy and intense experiences, like being embedded in the American far-right for ten years, or reporting the Thai coup for western media.

On these premises, it is not a surprise that Coleman’s artistic output is that good. Art often flows from our inner richness, creativity follows pain and challenges. ‘Crazy For You’ is the project’s latest effort, and it has all the cards needed for following in the footsteps of its predecessor. Over a steady, punchy and groovy beat, the track navigates between hip-hop influences and breakbeat material, providing the perfect sonic framework for Coleman’s light and soulful vocals. There’s a nice contrast between the punchiness of the instrumental and the mellow quality the artist’s voice has to offer. It works.
