Making music between London and Berlin, dark pop sensation Jagara has been brewing new music for a while now. ‘Into the Night’ is the project’s latest effort, feeling like a strong comeback and a potential new beginning, while highlighting its author’s strong production and songwriting skills. Introduced by a cinematic soundscape, the track then makes its way towards punchy, fast-paced electro-pop goodness, interlaced by an arpeggiated bass and haunting keys. Jagara’s vocals drive the song forward, exploding into a catchy, glorious chorus.
There’s something special about the Jagara’s vocal tone. Perhaps is her resilience, returning to music after a short hiatus. Or perhaps its malleability, maintaining control while showcasing power and poignancy. The results are staggering. And confirms once again the hype the project had around itself on debut.
‘Into the Night’ follows up on ‘Trance Sweat’, an instrumental, trance-infused piece released earlier this summer. It is clear how Jagara had extensive time to work on her music: the variety and depth of her production speak for themselves. During lockdown, she was in Berlin, a city known for its kaleidoscopic electronic scene. Perhaps that’s where the British talent borrowed some of her newly-found moody, dark aesthetic.
Describing the concept around the track, Jagara explains: “The track is about staying connected to your authentic self in the face of societal pressures — and for me that’s through music, movement and self-expression”.
