Everything about River Westin blows me away! From his retro-inspired artwork and beautiful poster-like press release, to his 1950/60’s inspired music that acquires an incredibly innovative and modern take.
Westin’s new album ‘The Honeymoon Suit’ sounds like a glorious collaboration between a 60’s boy band such as The Beach Boys and a retro-inspired artist like Lana Del Rey. Continuously reminiscing artists and songwriting styles that came before him, Westin’s unique sound shines through effortlessly.
The album flows seamlessly while constantly introducing new concepts, testing how far the boundaries of old and the new can go. The first song sucks you in straight away with dreamy unapologetic nostalgia that lingers throughout the whole album, while Westin incorporates thought-out modern twists, leaving you wanting more after each song.
The self-taught, New York-Based musician pursued a path in art and graphic design before finding songwriting as an additional creative outlet. Since then Westin has been releasing music, cultivating an impressive discography while creating a visual and sonic world for his artist persona. As a part of the LGBTQ community, Westin portrays a queer perspective to an era that couldn’t have one, as he combines Lo-Fi hip-hop, indie and dream pop with 60’s pop.
