Not everyone might be into instrumental music. Perhaps you need the presence of vocals to take it seriously, or you disregard it as a ‘study and relaxation’ effort. Truth is, sound is made up of a series of waves hitting your ears at various frequencies, each one carrying a particular characteristic. It is obvious then, that ‘vocals or not vocals’ is a feeble conversation. Aussie composer Timothy and the Apocalypse understands that perfectly, delivering music with a strong instrumental core and sparse vocal elements, all blending together in a perfectly harmonized musical hug.
‘Consequence My Friend’ is the project’s latest effort, coming on the back of an extremely productive year and a half. Evidently, the Sydney resident is particularly inspired, and we do believe it, judging from what we are hearing. Championing a kaleidoscopic electronic aesthetic, Timothy’s main themes stem from trip-hop and leftfield, while always keeping an open mind.
In this case, Timothy and the Apocalypse decide on an organic piece, putting together acoustic drums and fuzzy guitars in a true alt-rock fashion, while vocals fragments are treated in large dub-like delays. We even get short bursts of a lead vox, a feature that works well in the context.
