If you’re longing for early 2000’s Avril Lavigne and looking for your new favourite pop-punk female artist, look no further. Canadian artist Darrian Gerard delivers an explosion of teen angst and rage in her new release ‘Explosion’.
The multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and producer started her musical exploration when she first picked up a guitar at the age of seven. Soon after, the young artist began writing music, which led to learn bass, piano and drums, and becoming her own one-woman band. During the pandemic, Gerard further developed her skills further by learning to produce her own music, giving herself full control over her artistry. Gerard’s aspiration for independence funnels into her badass IDGAF attitude, reminiscent of the late 90’s and early 2000’s female-led bands.
Gerard shares that her latest release ‘Explosions’ “is about not caring if people think you’re moody or ‘cold hearted’ for wanting to be yourself and do things that you want to do”. She adds that after trying to write a pop-punk track, she finally found inspiration from a guitar amp pre-set.
Listening to Gerard’s previous songs, it seems that this release has birthed a new era for the artist, which truly flatters her musical direction and brand. Paired with a music video that fits her new persona and completes the package for her latest song, I’m excited to see what else is in store for this pop-punk newcomer.
